Located in Houston’s Uptown District, Aspire Post Oak is a podium-style tower featuring two floors of retail; seven floors

of parking, including two underground; an indoor and outdoor amenity deck on the seventh floor and 35 stories of residential space. The units will include one-, two- and three-bedroom models averaging about 1,200-sf.

The structural system for the building utilizes a two-way post-tensioned flat plate for the residential levels and portions of the parking levels. The remainder of the parking levels are built using one-way post-tensioned slab spanning between post-tensioned concrete beams. The building is braced laterally by cast-in-place concrete shear walls that taper in thickness as they continue up through the tower. The shear walls and columns that support the tower bear on a 6’-0” thick mat foundation, and the surrounding podium columns are supported by individual spread footings.

In order to provide drive-aisles in the garage levels, the southernmost shearwall splits as it descends through the parking floors. Rather than trying to carry the shearwall above using a transfer girder, a section of the shearwall itself slopes diagonally down to grade.

The building contains two below-grade parking levels. Due to

the tight, urban nature of the site and the fact the adjacent land owners did not allow tie-backs, it was necessary to set-back the lowest basement level on two sides in order to properly excavate to the desired elevation.
