IMEG provided construction observation, verification, documentation, and inspection services for the $1.4 billion Interstate 74 Bridge Corridor project. The bi-state project spans the Mississippi River in the Quad-Cities between Moline, Ill., and Bettendorf, Iowa.<\/p>\n
The project involved the replacement of the I-74 bridge plus nearly eight miles of corridor improvements. The firm’s scope of work consisted of the I-74 approach spans over the river on both sides of the main arch span bridge, the main arch span bridge, the westbound Iowa viaduct, the westbound exit ramp to U.S. 67, and a two-mile section of the corridor in Moline stretching from 7th Avenue to Avenue of the Cities. In addition to the above services, the firm also provided as-built surveys, construction layout, and construction layout verification QC\/QA.<\/p>\n
Located on a new alignment to the east of the existing bridge, the new structure features dual basket-handle arch bridges with main channel spans of 800 feet. The bridges support six lanes in each direction, including an outboard bicycle and pedestrian path.<\/p>\n
Construction on the bridge corridor project began in the summer of 2017, with the approaches constructed in 2019 and 2020. The new bridge opened in December 2021, and will be followed by the demolition of the existing bridge.<\/p>\n
