IMEG provided engineering design and services for the Village of Waunakee\u2019s new public library. The brownfield site includes a bike path and pedestrian walkway near the two-story, 40,000-sf building. The new library features a 2,400-sf community center that seats 115 to 200 people.<\/p>\n
Engineers provided structural, MEP, fire protection, and technology services for the facility, which includes an open, flexible design; collaborative areas; maker space; social learning and meeting rooms; a \u201cliving room\u201d for information groups like book clubs; designated areas for young adults and families; nook and story time room; office suite for staff; a history hall about Waunakee; and a fireside place. The first level includes the main lobby, coffee area, and kiosks.<\/p>\n
The mechanical design included an air-cooled chiller and high-efficiency condensing boiler that provide chilled and heated water to central variable flow air handling units. The boiler also provides perimeter heat, and a radiant floor in the children\u2019s area provides added comfort. The electrical design includes a 208 V, 1000A electrical distribution system and LED lighting throughout the building.<\/p>\n
The building\u2019s sustainability features include a greenroof, capacity for future solar panels, and central time-clock controls and local occupancy sensors in combination with efficient lighting. The interior lighting wattage is expected to perform 65 percent better than code and the exterior lighting uses less than 25 percent of code-allowable wattage.
