The design allows for more efficient use of the existing building space and provides a showcase for the community and visitors.<\/p>\n<p>IMEG provided structural, MEP, fire protection, and technology design, as well as construction administration. The new 60,000-sf addition \u2013 which houses a new gym, cafeteria, main entrance, gathering space, and a science wing \u2013 was constructed first, followed by the existing building renovation. Construction was phased to integrate the new systems with the existing piping.<\/p>\n<p>The existing building had low ceiling heights and unit ventilators, which limited options for new ductwork. To solve this, engineers provided small rooftop units to serve the new breakout spaces, allowing minimal ductwork sizes. The design also included new unit ventilators and a chiller replacement. Engineers worked with the architect to prioritize design decisions that met the budget and solved challenges regarding new system types and zoning for the existing structure.
