The new medical center facility:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expands the hospital to two million square feet<\/li>\n<li>Includes 420 new private inpatient hospital rooms (for a total of 716 rooms)<\/li>\n<li>Expands the Emergency Center to 84 beds<\/li>\n<li>Provide two floors of surgical suites (35 total operating rooms)<\/li>\n<li>Includes ample parking in a new 3,300-space garage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IMEG designed the MEP systems for the Trauma Tower expansion, which required an approximate doubling of the existing energy resources to support the activities of the new facility. New loads are approximately 4,000 tons of cooling, 18,000 MMBtu of steam, and 7,000 kW of electricity. Th e existing UHS central utility plant (CUP) was expanded and modified to accommodate new equipment capable of meeting this demand. Additionally, on-site electric generators were added to meet increased demand for essential \u201clife safety\u201d electric needs and standby loads.<\/p>\n<p>The new central plant includes five 1100-ton traditional electrically-driven chillers, four 125 BoHp natural gas boilers, and six 2000 kW diesel generators, all located in spaces adjacent to the existing CUP. The total capacity of the new installation is 6600 tons.<\/p>\n<p>With sustainability a top priority, the project was designed to allow for low energy and maintenance costs and achieved LEED Gold certification.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IMEG developed the master facility plan for University Health System to develop a new campus at their Medical Center and downtown locations.
