E<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ven before the legalization wave of such facilities started in earnest, the EUCI s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tates<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0that<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">by 2012\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">legal indoor marijuana growing facilities\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">were\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">already\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">accounting f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">or 1% of national electricity use<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. This amounted to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a cost of roughly $6 billion per year, rivaling energy consumption of data centers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0at the time<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As the cannabis industry continues to expand across the country,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">these facilities\u2019 energy efficiency will become more of a focus by both utility companies and regulatory agencies.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This in turn will make the facilities\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">prime candidates for energy efficiency programs and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">more stringent\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">regulations<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It\u2019s important for engineering consultants to understand, navigate, and meet the c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">odes and standards<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">are<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0continu<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ally<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">being\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">developed\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">this industry<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u2013 especially those related to energy efficiency<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Meeting th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">se requirements\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">through<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">energy-efficient\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">esign that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">supports the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0operational\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">needs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0these unique facilities<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">not only achieves compliance but also\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">helps\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">owners\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">m<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">inimize capital and operational costs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in the long run.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Medical marijuana grow facilities are high on energy consumption, making them prime candidates for energy efficiency programs and more stringent regulations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":7300,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[3,165,155],"tags":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n<title>Energy efficiency is crucial to the expanding cannabis industry -
