A compressed air system evaluation can point owners and facilities engineers in the right direction to ensure their plant is operating efficientl<\/span>y and reliably. But the requirements of an effective industrial compressed air system vary depending on a facility\u2019s size, air quality requirements, minimum demand pressure, and other site-specific\u00a0<\/span>criteria.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When evaluating your facility\u2019s compressed air system, it\u2019s important to consider these factors:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Your\u00a0<\/span><\/b>compressed air<\/span><\/b>\u00a0quality<\/span><\/b>. Some facilities, like factories using pneumatic tools and conveyance,\u00a0<\/span>do not require the same high-quality air as food processing or testing facilities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Water vapor.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Because it can\u2019t be filtered out of the system, water vapor must be condensed out<\/span>\u00a0or absorbed from the airstream using either a refrigerated or desiccant air dryer.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Energy-saving potential.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Improving the efficiency of compressed air systems may save you a small percentage of e<\/span>nergy cost per cubic feet per minute (cfm<\/span>), but<\/span>\u00a0eliminating unnecessary compressed air consumption saves 100 percent of the energy cost for the cfm saved.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you suspect your system has excessive leakage or is underperforming, walk through your facility when manufacturing processes are off and listen<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 c<\/span>ompressed air leaks make noise, and you may be a<\/span>ble to hear major leaks.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
