Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis, IN, has been transformed to house Olympic-size pools for the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials, which begin June 15. Nearly 1,000 athletes will compete to represent Team USA at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. This event marks the 100-year anniversary of Indianapolis\u2019 first hosting of the 1924 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, in which the Olympic Games coincidentally also took place in Paris, France.<\/p>\n
Following the removal of the NFL football field\u2019s turf and goalposts, the over eight feet-tall pool was constructed on the playing surface.\u00a0 Surrounding the elevated pool is a competition deck which creates the visual appearance of an in-ground swimming pool.\u00a0 More than 2 million gallons of water from the nearby White River were used to fill the competition and warm-up pools after being circulated, cleaned, and chlorinated.<\/p>\n
IMEG engineers determined the infrastructure for filling, heating, and draining of the Olympic swimming pools. The nine-day event is expected to draw more than 250,000 fans to Lucas Oil Stadium, which will become the largest venue to ever hold a swim meet.<\/p>\n
The first-of-its-kind project was constructed in just three weeks.<\/p>\n
