John talks about the experience in the following Q&amp;A.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>Q.<\/strong> What was it like to be part of this distinguished group of Top 20 Under 40 professionals from the AEC industry?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong> Being part of this group was as humbling of an experience as I\u2019ve had in my career. My peers in this group are some of the best and brightest from around the country, and it was an honor to be recognized alongside of them.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Q.<\/strong> Besides the honor you all shared, were there other career or personality traits the group had in common?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong> I would say the biggest trait we shared is our recognition that we have all had great mentorship and guidance to get where we are today, and with that we all pledged to provide that same type of mentorship to the next generation of leaders in our industry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q.<\/strong> Climate change was a one of several key topics discussed at the conference. Was there consensus on priority actions the AEC industry should be taking?<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>A.<\/strong> We talked at length about various city\/state requirements to get to net zero, something our Minnesota staff are doing on public state-funded Minnesota projects by 2030. We also discussed the evolving importance of reducing embodied carbon\u2014something IMEG as a whole has committed to for both structural and MEP design, joining the initiatives <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/se2050.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">SE 2050<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/carbonleadershipforum.org\/mep2040\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">MEP 2040<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Q.<\/strong> What other topic of discussion did you find particularly enlightening, and why?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong> We talked about leadership and mentorship, which really sparked the group discussion as we all have our own story about how we got to where we are today. It was interesting that although each of us comes from a different background, company, and geographical area, it was universal that good mentorship and leadership have been pivotal to why we were chosen by ENR for this year\u2019s Top 20 Under 40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q.<\/strong> Did you share any IMEG initiatives for the benefit of the group?<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>A.<\/strong> I was able to share IMEG\u2019s recently created Senior Director of Innovation position, held by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imegcorp.com\/news_events\/imeg-appoints-mike-lawless-to-new-position-of-director-of-innovation\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Mike Lawless<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and its importance to the long-term success of the firm.
